Dialysis Room
A Digital Twin of a real medical environment used for dialysis treatment, demonstrating how immersive 3D models can support healthcare education, student preparation and patient orientation.
Making a Complex Topic More Tangible
During their studies in the medical device department, students learn about the renal system and the dialysis machine. Dialysis is considered a complex and challenging topic because, at this stage of their studies, it is taught mainly through theory, while practical familiarisation with the machine only takes place later in the programme.
Learning through Immersive Exploration
The use of Matterport enabled students to become familiar with both the dialysis machine and the working environment of the dialysis room in a tangible and interactive way, helping bridge the gap between theoretical instruction and future practical experience.
Explore the Dialysis Room
Navigate through the 3D Digital Twin and explore the medical environment virtually as part of an immersive learning experience.
From theory to a realistic clinical environment
The Matterport model allowed students to interact with the subject in a more concrete way and supported greater interest and engagement throughout the learning activity.
Clinical Environment
Students can become familiar with the layout and work environment of a real dialysis room.
Dialysis Equipment
The virtual tour helps learners become acquainted with the dialysis machine before direct practical exposure.
Interactive Learning
Students can explore the environment at their own pace, supporting a more engaging understanding of the topic.
Preparation for Practice
The Digital Twin provides earlier exposure to the clinical setting before practical training takes place.
Engagement, motivation and active learning
The project was not only used as a visual aid, but also as an interactive tool that increased student curiosity and encouraged active participation.
Better Understanding
Presenting dialysis through Matterport contributed significantly to students’ understanding of material that had previously been taught mainly in theoretical form.
High Student Interest
Students showed strong interest in the 3D tour and application and remained curious and engaged throughout the learning activity.
Increased Motivation
Presentation of the project in the competition encouraged students to experiment further with the application and use it more actively as part of their learning process.
From Student Project to Real Patient Use
The students who developed the winning project later presented it at the hospital where they work. The Digital Twin is now being used with real patients before they arrive at the dialysis room, extending the project beyond the classroom and into a real healthcare setting.
Immersive Technology for Healthcare Education
The Dialysis Room project demonstrates how Digital Twin technology can support healthcare learning by making complex clinical environments more accessible before direct practical experience. It also shows how student-created immersive models can move beyond education and become useful tools for orientation and preparation in real healthcare settings.
